Resonances

What is it?

Resonances is a system for role-playing games designed to play and experience stories and adventures that emerge from collective creation. The Players do so through their Player Characters, and the Game Guide through her interpretation of the game world and her reaction to the proposals and actions of the Player Characters. As the Player Characters act in the game, their experiences and personalities are revealed, and aspects of the game world with which they interact are also discovered.

Resonances proposes a game style where the players (and their characters) carry out the adventures, or generated stories, using the Purpose of their characters as a guide. At the same time, the Game Guide is in charge of giving consistency to the world, and of interpreting the reactions of that world and its inhabitants to the actions of the Player Characters, generally through the Resonances.

Through this interchange between the Players and the Game Guide, adventures are created with a close relation to the Player Characters.

So what's different about it?

Many things, but mainly that, unlike other games, the Game Guide (or Game Director, or Master) does not propose an adventure, problem, or situation in which the Player Characters get involved, but rather that the Players themselves act freely, although inspired by the Purpose of their characters, to pursue their desires and goals. Thus the Game Guide passes to a reactive role, simply interpreting the consequences of the actions of the Player Characters.

Two more things stand out about this system:

• The characters grow and evolve through their experiences (literally) within the game world, not only in their abilities and skills but also in an introspective way, developing personality traits, instincts, beliefs, prejudices, etc.
• The Resonances (consequences of the actions of the Player Characters) weave stories closely related to the Player Characters, giving rise to great narrative arcs that are born from the act of playing itself, making the Player Characters the true protagonists of the game.
